Warlords Drops
#1
Why do people play Warlords if they are going to drop when they have viable positions? I've had this several times recently and it just turns the game into a race to pick up abandoned assets not any sort of fun contest. It just happened in another game - I'm probably going to drop rather than just race the last player - if that was what I wanted, I'd be playing Titan.

I think lately it has been more a few high ranking players dropping multiple games as they leave alamaze. Guess that can happen just rather they finished or found some replacements. But I also agree warlords is not like a single player game when you sign up it should be for the long haul. I am not saying you must fight to the last man but at least fight to the last region. If you are still the owner of a region you can still cause considerable damage to a would be attacker or at least make them think.

In one game I'm in, one player dropped early - he was under attack from another one, but he was still viable. But then I see that the other player - who was leading - has dropped as well. And the remaining player figured it out faster than me and besides, I have no interest in just racing to pick up neutral pop centers. I'm dropping it as well as I just don't see the point.

I'd be interested in a Warlords game with people committed to stay until at least the end T12.

I'd also be interested in a possible Titan game (with one person having prior right of first refusal, if he wants it), using some variant house rules I came up with.

HeadHoncho,

I agree with you in that there should be a minimum duration of keeping in a warlords game. If you drop a regular game, it might unbalance the game a bit. But, when one of four players quits the game, it creates a power vacuum and can spoil an otherwise good game. I know that we should keep the game going past turn 15, or maybe 20. This should probably be an unwritten word in the game balance.

Not sure if this would work but getting a warlord standby list in line would be a solution. A thread with a list and a viability clause.

I'd be totally up for that! Good idea, although I guess you'd need to be at least Victor level (five slots) to pick up a two-slot standby.

+1 This happened in two of my warlords games.

One on turn 9 (player had 3 regions) and one on turn 6 (player had 2 regions).

Actually in 3 Warlords games come to think of it but the last drop was on T15 or so.

Yeah this just happened in 32 today.

Hopefully the remaining players see it through till the end.

Warlords should be for players willing to see things through and this should be understood before sign up.

Lord Thanatos is dropping 34, the Championship. If true, I will drop as well and leave it to the remaining players. A 3-player Warlords game does not appeal.

This will be the only game I have ever dropped.
