Notification on Kingdom Elimination
#1
We are interested in your viewpoint, and so your vote in this poll on this question:

Should the game code eliminate a player who has either no PC's or no King (no un-captured political emissary that can assume the crown), or should players only be eliminated if they request so by emailing activegames@alamaze.co?

Please vote in the poll.

I voted for something else. I don't mind the player continuing in the game, but I think we should be notified when players are officially eliminated, drop the game, or stop sending orders and are dropped.
 Lord Diamond

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I voted for player notification BUT I'd assume it will default to #2 option if the player is no longer playing/paying for service.

I second Lord Diamonds post on all points.

The question is exactly "what is official elimination?"

Ideally...

I think that if a kingdom is eliminated, there's a good case for not notifying, since that was the work of the players who eliminated that kingdom and they should benefit from the opportunities they create. Their hard work to oust the other player should be rewarded by them having an opportunity to exploit that elimination with the other players unaware.

On the other hand, if a player drops it unbalances the game, so everyone should get a notification of that.

However, there's no ideal world and some eliminated players WILL make their elimination known via forum/messages etc, while others in the same game may not and that inequality of knowledge would be unfair to some.

Therefore I vote for full notification of BOTH drops and eliminations

Again, this is about under what circumstance there is a kingdom eliminated. If the code checks for eliminations for the conditions listed, and announces to all players' results, that's one solution. Otherwise the method is to wait for the player to announce it to the forum and the code doesn't check for it.

BTW to clarify about the poll above, Am I to understand that the current system is that if a player has lost all PC's and emissaries but still have agents and groups they continue to be active in the game?

If so, that sounds like a good system. I'm thinking of the way a Polish air force continued flying from Britain after all Poland's land and government was taken over at the start of WW2.

Personally, I feel that if no emissaries remain (from being assassinated or held hostage by another), then the code should automatically generate an envoy-level emissary to act as regent so that the kingdom may continue.

A kingdom should only be considered eliminated when no population centers exist for that kingdom at the end of turn. When that happens, the current message from the code should be broadcast to the remaining kingdoms that the ruler can no longer issue orders or such.

Population centers are the central part of a kingdom, not emissaries, not armies, not agents, not wizards, ....etc. therefore, pop centers should be the final determination of when a kingdom is active or no longer active in the game.

I mentioned the Polish air force fighting on despite having all Polish PC's under occupation. There's also Iraq 2003-2008 as a good example of a fight not being over just because a population is occupied. We could add a few others from history like the Apache in Texas, The Jews in Roman Israel, the French in Tunisia, and the Wolverines in Red Dawn.
