The Queens's Gambit
#1
On Netflix.  Pretty good after two episodes.  Young female prodigy learns to beat grand masters in the 1950's.

I play chess with this guy from Australia. His name is Guy. He always declines the Queen's Gambit. Nice story, Pine Needle.

Ah, as I have ever said, you reach for what your want, and sometimes you get it.  So this show is about both sides of the coin.
Anyway, on specifics, I like the discussions on the openings, like obviously the Queen's Gambit but also the Sicilian Defense.

Just never saw a movie so focused on chess with a female star.  Something different.

I heard it is great. I will check it out. Thanks for the recommendation. My friend Guy is a loser.

btw agree. No chess female movie evarr. Is there a documentary on the Polgit sisters I missed? All I can think about is Finding Bobby Fischer. Not much chess on the big screen.

The queens gambit is never accepted in high level chess.

Not so sure;  keeps you on your toes.  An alternative way to to control the middle and perhaps through the opponent off balance.   Geeez. surprise  is half the game.  Just expecting pawn to king 4.  Go for the English opening or the Sicilian Defense. Do the unexpected.

I probably mentioned it before, a good chess channel, agadmator.  I've watched probably hundreds of recent top GM games, its always the queens gambit declined.  Magnus, the world champion, loves the London, as do I, that's not an e4 opening.  And I do like the Sicilian as well, specifically the pterodactyl version of the hyper-accelerated dragon, mostly for the name Smile  And Qa5+ always surprises people at my level.

On your recommendation, I just binge-watched the series. Really good except for all the drugs Smile. Have to say, when Canticar and I played on our high school team, we did not meet any such prodigies, thank goodness.
