How to have fun
#1
I listen to this podcast Sessions about a down on his luck poker player. He's got issues, for sure. Check it out if you want.

He used to be a high stakes player, and he said the key to winning was not range merging and math blah blah but making the money players happy to lose. They don't care about the money- they want to have fun.

So I was thinking here, this game, have fun. Trash talk. We don't play for money, so if you lose, who cares?

Painted Man pretty clearly had this attitude, and still crushed, and I'm in a game right now where someone is picking a fight he maybe can't win? Maybe?

Let's just have fun. What is to be gained by collusion or illegal communication? Nothing.  It's a game.

And I still will meet any of you in Vegas post Covid to play some poker and drink some beers, which I love.

I don't really care much if two people collude, as long as it actually two people.  Some people, however, will play two kingdoms in one game, and that's the behavior that causes me to abandon any winning strategy and go after them in particular... until a second person (third kingdom) comes along behind and stomps me into oblivion... thanks darkseid... I'm in that game with you, right? You're the RA and I'm the AN?

Who's playing two kingdoms?

It seems the game is a draw (winner's share) as no one can get 5 regions. All I am doing is getting points, though I just saw something remarkable. I don't think I can capitalize on it before the end of the game.  I'd think two kingdoms with one owner could have gotten 5 regions.

Anyway, I enjoy playing the game with you.

Well, I can't say now.  I've decided that if you're going to call someone out for this kind of thing, you have to finish strong, or else you just look like a whiner... I'll get him next time Wink

Not sure how long you've been around but the reason this stuff was banned - collusion outside of forum etc and most people started exclusively playing anonymous and only recently forum diplomacy is that there was a lot of 3 on 1s happening. This was the opposite of having fun for the one on the receiving end and led to more and more players quitting the game altogether. Some people do seem to care if they lose, and they are paying for the game. When 3 kingdoms  (or even 2) coordinated attack another player there is really nothing you can do and are out of the game almost immediately.

I know DuPont was one that had a lot to say about this many years ago so maybe he wants to chime in.

PS. I sure miss Vegas, way more than I ever thought I would.

I'm surprised to hear this. I would think Rick and UM would be able to tell this is happening.

If they looked.  The last time I brought it up Rick told me strait out he's not policing the game.  Its easy to see in game though, and a trip to Valhalla will get you started on circumstantial evidence.  Look at duels.

I've only been in the game a year. My point was not to tolerate collusion, it was why collude at all since nothing is on the line.

Just trying to have fun.

Personalities differ.  Some people desire the adulation of others that they think might come with victory, even in something as simple as this game.
