Possible Game Based on The Expanse
#1
After the next Maelstrom update, if the team is still together, we might try to tackle a brand new game.  Based largely on Alamaze concepts, but put in our Solar System, and after maybe 15 turns, expanded through the Ring, to other solar systems.

It would be requiring early game survival and development, mid game discovery and strategy, preparations for the second phase of exo-solar exploration, if you can avoid being bogged down in a costly war.  But all sides have reasons to be at war with one another.   They can seek to eliminate their opponent, steal technology, disrupt colonies, or otherwise sabotage adversaries to gain an advantage in passing through the Ring and being first to explore and settle new worlds.

Earth and Luna are the United Nations.  They have by far the largest population and natural / sustaining resources.  They are permanent members of the Sol Council, but are subject to frequent rebellions.  A decision must be made to address the population's concerns at the expense of other development, or tolerate uncertainty in holding things together.

Mars has the most advanced scientists and possibly technology, the best warriors, and a loyal citizenry, but only an OK economy and modest population.

The Belt has highly desired rare metals that can make interstellar flight possible.  They are divided into tribes and only strong leaders can unite them.  They are dispersed on many major asteroids which gives the dis-united Belters a kind of protections - you can't knock them out entirely, and your people don't want to live in the harsh conditions of the Belt.  But they gain secrets about the Ring and other technologies first, and can trade rare metals.  Their soldiers and ships are brave, and when specially equipped can surprise.  But they have few resources of their own initially, as most are sold in trade to sustain its population.

The Outer Moons will have the least of everything except the greatest explorers who colonized them and have discovered new technologies.  They are closest to the Ring, but do they have the wherewithal to put it all together and get their first?

You can win by controlling Earth, Mars, and The Belt, or by points associated with being first through The Ring, getting through the Ring at all, and colonizing the planets according to a point scale on two potential solar systems by the end of turn 40.

You'll almost certainly need to trade to get either money, rare metals, or new discoveries and technologies to get through The Ring.  But there are advantages to some wars as well, as victories add to political clout.

Anyway, just thought of this while watching an episode of The Expanse.  Seems it is pretty well suited to a PBEM style strategy game.

Hey, lots of times I hear I should stick to fantasy as we've done pretty well there.  Anyway, what do you think, as a concept?
